Winter Spiti 4×4 Expedition – Spiti Valley is one of the cold deserted mountain valleys located at the height of the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Spiti” initially means “The Middle Land” which corresponds to the land lying between Tibet and India. And winters in Spiti are enormously harsh and temperatures even fall to -20º Celsius. Therefore, a winter expedition to Spiti Valley in 4×4 is an endless thrill.

Day 1 :

Chandigarh to Shimla

Total Distance: 120 Kms | Route: Delhi/Chandigarh -Shimla
Pick from Delhi / Chandigarh preferably 1st Half of the day then off to Shimla on Arrival Check-in at Hotel Woodrina or Similar.

Day 2 :

Shimla to Kalpa

Total Distance: 120 Kms | Route: Shimla – Sarahan- Kalpa
Early Start of the day crossing Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda then Lunch at Rampur we continue along Indo-Tibet highway before turning left and climbing the pine forest slopes till we reach Kalpa. A beautiful Himalayan village which offers one the best views of Snow Peaks right across the valley looming large in front of you. Kinner Kailash peak is one of the abodes of Lord Shiva. Kalpa is a beautiful village located in the front of Kinner Kailash Mountain range. Evening free to walk around the kalpa village with beautiful views of the Kinnaur Kailash mountains.

Day 3 :

Kalpa to Nako to Kaza

Total Distance: 160 kms | Route: Sangla - Nako - Gue Monastry – Tabo - Kaza
From Kalpa, we head to Tabo another beautiful village. Again, this route has some fantastic sightseeing opportunities, and the famous ones are the Nako Himachal Pradesh lake and the Gue Monastery. The variety of scenic beauty and the brownish mountains is to be witnessed here. You may experience here some slight drizzles on the way. Overnight stay is arranged at Kaza

Day 4 :

Kaza Local Sightseeing - Langza Komic Hikkim Kaza

Today we will visit some of the highest inhabited villages in the world. After a cozy night in your comforters, wake up to a beautiful morning in Kaza. Though small, the village has ample sightseeing options.
Today is the records breaking day. We wil visit the highest village in India, Komic, which has a motorable road. We will drive today to Langza. A giant painted Buddha statue stands in front of the new monastery on a hill above the settlement. The Buddha is shown contacting the soil in the figure, which faces west and looks out over the Spiti valley.
The Geological Survey of India considers Spiti one of the world's most fossil-rich regions. Fossils reaching back a few hundred million years have been discovered in isolated villages of Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti valleys.
We will finally send a postcard from Hikkim to our loved ones from the highest Post office in the world. Don't forget to bring some stamps and postcards.

Day 5 :

Kaza to Sangla / Chitkul

Total Distance: 208 kms | Route: Kaza - Sangla
Sangla is one of the most beautiful valleys in the country, and in Tibetan, the word Sangla means "Passing of the light," and the place truly lives to its name during the sunlight when the view around is just mesmerizing. Once you reach Rakcham after spending some quality time throughout the day, you will be served some lovely dinner, and you can retire for the day at your allocated rooms in the hotel. Day visit to Chitkul.

Day 6 :

Sangla to Chandigarh

Total Distance: 330 kms | Route: Sangla –Shimla-Chandigarh
Once you check out from the Hotel in Sangla, we head to Shimla. The picturesque views and beautiful weather will add to your excitement. Enjoy the ride to Shimla before you bid goodbye to the most dreamt tour of the Himalayas.

Which is the best time to visit spiti valley?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How many days are sufficient for exploring spiti valley?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What essential things are items are needed for trip to spiti valley?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What are the cultural events of spiti valley?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

What are the best destinations in spiti valley?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Do we need all terrain vehicles for spiti valley?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

What are the general requirements for this trip?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
